Making of The Corpse Flower Nail
by victoria houllis
In January the Sydney Botanic Gardens live streamed the blooming of a corpse flower (Amorphophallus titanum). It's a rare-ish occurance as it can go years between blooms and the stench of it is meant to be remarkable. I wasn't really into the live stream until a client asked to watch it while I did her nails and within a matter of 10 minutes I understood the fascination. The slow process of the bloom was quite incredible to watch and seeing the unified awe of everyone going to visit on the live stream was so fun. So naturally when I had a gap in the day I decided I would try and sculpt it. So now, 6 months on, I remembered I had the footage and decided to edit together all of the footage, including my internal, now, external monolgue while I worked, just for your viewing pleasure!
